Many favor Marangu route because it is considered to be the easiest path on the mountain, given its gradual slope and direct path. However the short time frame of the route makes altitude acclimatization fairly difficult. The route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the southeast. Marangu is unfortunately less scenic than the other routes because the ascent and descent are along the same path. It is also the most crowded route for that reason

    For entry into the territory of the United Republic of Tanzania for tourism purposes it is necessary to have a valid foreign passport with an expiry date of at least six more months at the moment of crossing the border of the Republic. The passport must have two blank pages for seals and stamps on border crossing.

    There are two ways to get tourist visa;

    1. Receiving visa upon arrival: visa will be stamped into your passport by the immigration authorities of Tanzania.

    2. Applying an online visa: the Tanzania Immigration Services launched a new online visa service. To access these services, an applicant is required to visit the Tanzania department's website at www.immigration.go.tz then click "e-services" button: select "online visa application" then fill the Visa Application Form

    Muzuri Tours ensures that all clients are properly equipped to comfortably reach the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Prior to the arrival all clients receive a list of required equipment. During the in-depth pre-climb briefing the clients’ gear will be inspected by our guides to ensure it is suitable. In case of any missing or unsuitable items, Muzuri Tours works closely with local rental companies that will provide climbing equipment very quickly. Our company provides all necessary cooking and eating equipment as well as the camping gear for those clients who choose a camping route

    Footwear:

    • A pair of sneakers or trail runners: hiking shoes are only necessary if you are going to climb a mountain, otherwise, choose lighter shoes
    • Flip-flops or sandals: comfortable when you relax at your accommodation, go swimming or take a shower

    Toiletries:

    • Pack the usual things like soap, toothpaste, shampoo, and conditioner, etc.
    • Sunscreen
    • After-sun lotion
    • Bug spray/ insect repellent with DEET
    • Lip balm with SFP
    • Wet wipes: if you have to go to the toilet or clean anything during your safari

    Required Mountaineering Equipment (non-exhaustive list)

    • 1 Mountaineering Sleeping bag (usually a -10-degree rating or better is recommended)
    • 1 litre water canteen (sturdy plastic or lightweight metal) or water bladder (Camel Bak).
    • 1 LED Flashlight with spare batteries - or if you can get a wind-up one that is even better!
    • 1 Pair of comfortable trekking/hiking boots
    • 2 pairs of thick thermal socks and several pairs of regular socks
    • 2 Fleeces
    • 1 down jacket or long-sleeved wind-breaker (down jacket is unnecessary if you have a couple of good heavy fleeces)
    • 1 set of thermal underwear (i.e. thermal vest & long-johns)
    • 2 pairs of trekking trousers
    • 1 waterproof jacket
    • 1 pair of waterproof trousers
    • 1 balaclava or ski-mask
    • 1 pair of gloves
    • 1 pair of hiking/walking poles
    • 1 sun hat and sunglasses
    • 1 duffle bag and 1-day pack

    Deposit and Final Payment

    • You will be required to pay a deposit or deposits when booking, ranging from 30% - 45%. Your consultant will advise you on how much that will be. All deposits are non-refundable for changes of mind or cancellations by you (subject to your rights). 
    • Final payment is required no later than 2 weeks prior to arrival unless otherwise stated.

    Itinerary
    Day 1: Marangu gate to Mandara Hut

    After breakfast, you will be collected from your lodge in Moshi/Arusha and taken to the Marangu gate. Once the necessary paper work has been completed, your trek can begin and you will soon be hiking through the dense rainforest. Alongside the impressive vegetation, you will have the chance to catch a glimpse of some primates as you head to the Mandara Hut.

    Overnight: Mandara hut.

    Trekking hours: 3–5hrs

    Elevation (ft): 6,046 ft to 8,858 ft

    Meals: B,L,D

    Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

    The day begins with an early breakfast. Shortly after you have left Mandara Hut, you will reach the timberline and then enter the heath and moor zone. Few miles later, the Horombo Hut will come into sight, standing at an altitude of 3700m. From the hut, you will have fantastic views overlooking Mawenzi, Kibo and the wide plain of the Masai steppe.

    Trekking hours: 5-7hrs

    Elevation (ft):  8,858 ft to 12,205 ft

    Day 3: Horombo Hut

    Today serves as an acclimatization day. This should not be underestimated and greatly improves your chance of success in reaching the summit. After a relaxing breakfast, a trek follows to the Zebra Rocks (4020m). The distinctive black and white stripes give the rock formation its name. On your return to Horombo Hut, a warm lunch will be waiting for you. You can relax in the afternoon and regain your strength for the hike the following day.

    Trekking hours: 4hrs

    Elevation (ft): 12,205 ft to 14,400 ft

    Meals: B,L,D

    Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

    This day’s walk is long and tough. The well-built trail passes the “Last Water point” which is followed by the so-called “saddle”. This nearly vegetation less plateau joins the main summit Kibo with Mawenzi. Today’s destination is the Kibo Hut. Here, you will enjoy an early evening meal followed by an early night, as the night will be short.

    Trekking hours: 6-8hrs

    Elevation (ft): 12,205 ft to 15,430 ft

    Meals: B,L,D

    Day 5: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak

    Today is “The Big Day” - the summit stage. You will begin your final ascent around midnight which will be long and strenuous. Passing the Hans Meyer Cave at 5220m, the climb slowly but surely goes upwards. At sunrise, you will reach Gillman’s Point (5681m) – the crater rim of Kilimanjaro – where the sun will slowly start to warm up the land. You will have soon forgotten the cold of the night and after a further hike of 1 - 2 hours, you will reach Uhuru Peak at 5895m. 

    Trekking hours: 6-8hrs

    Elevation (ft): 15,430 ft to 19,341 ft

    On your return to Kibo Hut, a warm meal awaits you followed by a 1 - 2 hour break before proceeding back down to Horombo Hut.

    Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut

    Elevation (ft): 19,341 ft to 12,250 ft

    Hiking Time: 4-5 hours

    Meals: B,L,D

    Overnight: Horombo hut

    Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu gate

    The last stage passes through the heath and moor zone to the Mandara Hut (2700m) where a warm lunch is waiting for you. Soon, you will once again pass the tropical rainforest and after a total time of 6 hours trekking, you will be back at the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (1860m). Once at the park headquarters at Marangu gate, we collect our summit certificates

    After saying goodbye to your mountain guides, a short transfer follows to take you back to your hotel in Moshi/Arusha. Once there, you can take a warm and relaxing shower and celebrate your success in reaching the summit of the Kilimanjaro.

    Elevation (ft): 12,205 ft to 6,046 ft

    Depart Tanzania

    This day left for your next destination. If you have safari, then might be used to beginning your safari or fly to Zanzibar or fly back home. Our vehicle will be ready to take you to the airport at your time.

    Change and cancellation fees:

    Cancellations must be sent in writings or email to the office that confirmed the reservation. All cancellations shall only be effective from the date of receipt of cancellation by the booking office

    Subject to your refund and remedy rights, the following change and cancellation fees apply to all bookings (including online bookings and bookings made with a consultant)

    • If cancelled 1month before departure date, 50% of the booking amount will be charged as cancellation fees less admin fees
    • If cancelled less than 14 days before departure date, no refunds will be given. 100% of the booking amount will be charged as cancellation fees.
    • Refunds will not be given for unused services, the late arrival or absence of clients
    • Muzuri Tours reserves the right to cancel your tour up to 60 days before start date.

    You are free to change the dates of your trip at any point in time. While rescheduling, applicable cancellation charges and any new charges will apply. Additional charges, if any, will be informed by the Company to you before the rescheduling is done. In case the booking is cancelled after rescheduling the original trip date will be used to calculate any refunds.

    • All prices are subject to availability and can be withdrawn or varied without notice. The price is only guaranteed once paid for in full by you. Please note that prices quoted are subject to change. Price changes may occur by reason of matters outside our control which increase the cost of the product or service. Such factors include adverse currency fluctuations, unfavorable change in exchange rates, fuel surcharges, government taxes and airfare increase.
