The route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the south, beginning with a short drive from Moshi to Machame Gate. The path leads hikers through the rain forest to Shira Plateau. Here, many of Kilimanjaro’s routes converge. Then the route turns east and traverses underneath Kilimanjaro's Southern Ice Field on a path known as the Southern Circuit before summiting from Barafu. Descent is made via the Mweka route.

    For entry into the territory of the United Republic of Tanzania for tourism purposes it is necessary to have a valid foreign passport with an expiry date of at least six more months at the moment of crossing the border of the Republic. The passport must have two blank pages for seals and stamps on border crossing.

    There are two ways to get tourist visa;

    1. Receiving visa upon arrival: visa will be stamped into your passport by the immigration authorities of Tanzania.

    2. Applying an online visa: the Tanzania Immigration Services launched a new online visa service. To access these services, an applicant is required to visit the Tanzania department's website at www.immigration.go.tz then click "e-services" button: select "online visa application" then fill the Visa Application Form

    Muzuri Tours ensures that all clients are properly equipped to comfortably reach the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Prior to the arrival all clients receive a list of required equipment. During the in-depth pre-climb briefing the clients’ gear will be inspected by our guides to ensure it is suitable. In case of any missing or unsuitable items, Muzuri Tours works closely with local rental companies that will provide climbing equipment very quickly. Our company provides all necessary cooking and eating equipment as well as the camping gear for those clients who choose a camping route

    Footwear:

    • A pair of sneakers or trail runners: hiking shoes are only necessary if you are going to climb a mountain, otherwise, choose lighter shoes
    • Flip-flops or sandals: comfortable when you relax at your accommodation, go swimming or take a shower

    Toiletries:

    • Pack the usual things like soap, toothpaste, shampoo, and conditioner, etc.
    • Sunscreen
    • After-sun lotion
    • Bug spray/ insect repellent with DEET
    • Lip balm with SFP
    • Wet wipes: if you have to go to the toilet or clean anything during your safari

    Required Mountaineering Equipment (non-exhaustive list)

    • 1 Mountaineering Sleeping bag (usually a -10-degree rating or better is recommended)
    • 1 litre water canteen (sturdy plastic or lightweight metal) or water bladder (Camel Bak).
    • 1 LED Flashlight with spare batteries - or if you can get a wind-up one that is even better!
    • 1 Pair of comfortable trekking/hiking boots
    • 2 pairs of thick thermal socks and several pairs of regular socks
    • 2 Fleeces
    • 1 down jacket or long-sleeved wind-breaker (down jacket is unnecessary if you have a couple of good heavy fleeces)
    • 1 set of thermal underwear (i.e. thermal vest & long-johns)
    • 2 pairs of trekking trousers
    • 1 waterproof jacket
    • 1 pair of waterproof trousers
    • 1 balaclava or ski-mask
    • 1 pair of gloves
    • 1 pair of hiking/walking poles
    • 1 sun hat and sunglasses
    • 1 duffle bag and 1-day pack

    Deposit and Final Payment

    • You will be required to pay a deposit or deposits when booking, ranging from 30% - 45%. Your consultant will advise you on how much that will be. All deposits are non-refundable for changes of mind or cancellations by you (subject to your rights). 
    • Final payment is required no later than 2 weeks prior to arrival unless otherwise stated.

    Itinerary
    Day 1: Machame gate to Machame Camp

    You’ll be picked up from your Moshi accommodations and make the drive to Kilimanjaro National Park.

    Here, you’ll liaise with your guides and begin your ascent through the verdant rainforest that clothes the lower reaches of Kilimanjaro.

    Hiking for 5-6 hours through this ancient jungle, you’ll get to go on a miniature safari as you spot wildlife such as black and white colobus monkeys along the way.

    You’ll finish your day at Machame Camp (3,000 metres), where your porters will be waiting with your tents pitched, hot water ready for bathing, and food ready to reenergize you for the day to come

    Overnight: Machame Camp

    Trekking hours: 5–6hrs

    Elevation (m): 1790m to 3010m

    Meals: B,L,D

    Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

    You’ll be up bright and early today, but it’s a shorter day of hiking. The lush forest gives way to scrubby moorland today, making for an entirely different hiking experience.

    You’ll arrive at Shira Camp by the mid-afternoon, giving you time to relax and soak in the stunning views of Kibo glacier from the Shira Plateau.

    Overnight: Shira Camp

    Trekking hours: 4-5hrs

    Elevation (m):  3010m to 3845m

    Meals: B,L,D

    Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp

    Your first goal today will be the intimidating form of the Lava Tower (4,640m) and you’ll set off for this distinctive landmark immediately after breakfast.

    After ascending 700m to the Lava Tower, you’ll descend gradually towards Barranco Camp at 4,500m.

    Your trek again takes you through different vegetation zones and you’ll set up camp at the scenic Barranco Camp in the shadows of the imposing Barranco Wall. Considered the most beautiful of all of the camps on Kilimanjaro, Barranco will be your base for the evening

    Overnight: Barranco Camp

    Trekking hours: 6-7hrs

    Elevation (m): 3845m to 3960m

    Meals: B,L,D

    Day 4: Barranco to Karanga Camp

    You’ll get your first real taste of mountain climbing today, as you’ll tackle Barranco Wall for a bit of old-fashioned rock climbing.

    After this initial trial, you’ll continue for another 3-4 hours until you reach your camp in the Karanga Valley,

    Stopping in time for lunch, you’ll have the afternoon to relax and acclimatize.

    Overnight: Karanga Camp

    Trekking hours: 4-5hrs

    Elevation (m): 3960m to 4550m

    Meals: B,L,D

    Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

    After your breakfast, you’ll continue on for another 2-3 hours until you reach Barafu Camp.

    Your hike takes you across an alpine desert, making for a truly otherworldly day of hiking.

    As you’ll be summitting tomorrow, the landscape starts to resemble the surface of the moon.  It’s important that you eat a full meal and drink plenty of fluids before turning in for the evening

    Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

    You’re starting your day early today – just after midnight, in fact!

    Your climbing team will wake you with a cup of hot tea and a light snack for energy as you get dressed and prepare your daypack for the adventure ahead.

    You’ll be hiking in utter darkness for the next 5-7 hours, so take it slow and you’ll arrive at Stella Point a few hours before dawn. From here, there’s another two hours of intense hiking before you reach your ultimate goal: Uhuru Peak.

     Standing at 5,985m, you’ll be able to experience a spectacular sunrise and take in the panoramic view. You’ve done it!

    After snapping your photos and soaking it all in, you’ll begin the descent back down towards Barafu Camp, where you’ll stop for lunch and some celebration.

    After a bit of rest, you’ll continue down to Mweka Camp to overnight.

    Overnight: Mweka Camp

    Trekking hours: 8-10hrs to Summit \ 4-7hrs to Mweka Camp

    Elevation (m): 4640m to 5895m to Uhuru Peak \ 5895m to 3080m Mweka Camp

    Meals: B,L,D

    Day 7: Mweka Camp to Moshi town

    It’s a day of celebration today, as you’ll enjoy one last breakfast on the mountain before descending to the Mweka Gate.

    Here, you’ll get to celebrate with your porters and guides, provide them with their tips for their hard work, and collect your certificate of completion from Kilimanjaro National Park.

    Your driver will then whisk you away to your Moshi or Arusha hotel to get some well-earned rest and a shower before your transfer to the airport this evening.

    Change and cancellation fees:

    Cancellations must be sent in writings or email to the office that confirmed the reservation. All cancellations shall only be effective from the date of receipt of cancellation by the booking office

    Subject to your refund and remedy rights, the following change and cancellation fees apply to all bookings (including online bookings and bookings made with a consultant)

    • If cancelled 1month before departure date, 50% of the booking amount will be charged as cancellation fees less admin fees
    • If cancelled less than 14 days before departure date, no refunds will be given. 100% of the booking amount will be charged as cancellation fees.
    • Refunds will not be given for unused services, the late arrival or absence of clients
    • Muzuri Tours reserves the right to cancel your tour up to 60 days before start date.

    You are free to change the dates of your trip at any point in time. While rescheduling, applicable cancellation charges and any new charges will apply. Additional charges, if any, will be informed by the Company to you before the rescheduling is done. In case the booking is cancelled after rescheduling the original trip date will be used to calculate any refunds.

Please note that prices quoted are subject to change. Price changes may occur by reason of matters outside our control which increase the cost of the product or service. Such factors include adverse currency fluctuations, unfavorable change in exchange rates, fuel surcharges, government taxes and airfare increase.
