On the 3-hour Footsteps to Freedom city walking tour we hear stories of Dutch and British rule at the Cape, slavery and apartheid, freedom and democracy.
Our meeting point is easily accessible on foot and by car most public transport drivers know were is the V&A hotel and the address can be found on Google maps quite easily
Please wear comfortable walking shoes in summer bring sun hat and sun lotion a windbreaker is required for the Boat trip to Robben Island and in winter bring your camera.
If you are prone to seasickness it is advisable to take sea sickness pills/medication an hour prior to boarding the boat.
Proof of identification is required when booking and boarding. ID document, drivers license, passport or birth certificate are accepted, as well as copies of these.

Robben Island tour
The tour takes between 3.5 to 4 hours. This includes the return boat trip. The tour starts at the NMG where the ferry is taken to the Island.
You will then disembark at Murray’s Bay Harbour situated on the eastern side of the Island and take a short walk to the buses that will transport you to all the historical sites around the Island. Alternatively, a walking tour to the prison is first undertaken, followed by the Island Bus Tour.
You will meet your Tour Guide when you have boarded the busses.
The full tour route includes the graveyard of people who died from leprosy, the Lime Quarry, Robert Sobukwe’s house, the Bluestone quarry, the army and navy bunkers and the Maximum Security.
The price of the ticket includes access to Robben Island, a ferry voyage to and from the Island, access to Jetty 1 and Nelson Mandela Gateway exhibitions.
This ticket is only valid for the date and time specified on the ticket.
Robben Island Museum reserves the right to cancel voyages or to change departure times without notice.
This ticket is not subject to refunds except if the respective voyage is cancelled by Robben Island Museum or the passenger could not attend due to hospitalization or mortality. Refunds will only be issued against the return of this ticket and proof of identification.
Ticket amendments will be subject to an administration fee as determined by Robben Island Museum.
Passengers must arrive no later than 30 minutes prior to the scheduled times of departure, failure to do so could result in the forfeit of your paid ticket. Boarding gates close 10 minutes before departure time and there will be no refunds or rescheduling of boats if the departure times are missed.
Robben Island Museum, its servants and its agents shall not be responsible for and shall be exempt from all liabilities in respect of loss damage, injury, accident, delay or any inconvenience to any person or his/her luggage or any personal property, whether in respect of the voyage to and from the Island or in respect of any occurrence results from the negligence of Robben Island Museum or any other person directly or indirectly in the employment or service of the Robben Island Museum or otherwise, under any circumstances whatsoever.
Passengers may also be conveyed by an independent contractor and the provisions above shall also apply in respect of all services or any activity conducted or provided by this contractor. Robben Island Museum shall under no circumstances be liable for any act or omission of such contractors.
Robben Island Museum is a “Gun Free Zone”, no guns shall be allowed or stored for safekeeping on the premises.
The Robben Island Museum ferry ticket is not transferable. Resale of the Robben Island Museum ferry ticket is a criminal offence.
The collection times are those requested by the client and it is therefore his responsibility to ensure that sufficient time is allowed to arrive at his destination.
Should the client fail to arrive at the requested collection point, he will be held liable for the full booking fee.
Except for private tours, guides will leave the collection point on the time stipulated in the itinerary. The client is therefore requested to contact our offices on (021)_5102646..or ..0786577788..should he foresee any delay in arriving at the scheduled collection time in order.
The guide may be unable to arrive at the scheduled collection time due to circumstances outside his reasonable control, the client is therefore requested to wait at least..10..minutes after the scheduled collection time, should the guide fail to arrive, prior to making alternative travel arrangements. Our offices will however endeavour to update the client of any possible delay in collection.
Should a vehicle booked by the client become unavailable, for whatsoever reason, Camissa Travel reserves the right to sub-contract the services quoted, and should the client accept the aforementioned remedy, the substituted service will compare equally as far as circumstances permit.
PASSENGERS PROPERTY
Passengers are responsible for the care and security of their personal property and luggage and should therefore refrain from leaving their property unattended.
Neither Camissa Travel, nor its employees will be liable for any loss or damage to property which is beyond its reasonable control. Travellers' are therefore encouraged to ensure that they have adequate travel protection insurance which includes but is not necessarily limited to trip cancellation or interruption, baggage protection, health/medical, accidental and/or death cover.
Camissa Travel will not be held liable for any incidents whatsoever, to your personal items or luggage, due to a passenger’s failure to adhere to these terms and conditions.
PASSENGER CONDUCT
The guide has the right to refuse any client who in his/her opinion is a danger to the guide, access to the vehicle or the other passengers.
Camissa Travel reserves the right to refuse admission to person/s that may hinder the health and safety of fellow passengers.
Smoking, the possession and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages and/or contraband substances, is NOT permitted in our vehicles under any circumstances and passengers will be refused boarding at the sole discretion of the guide. In the event of the passenger being refused boarding, the passenger will forfeit any right to a refund or compensation.
You will be held fully responsible for valet and/or repair fees should you / your clients sully or damage our vehicles.
No animals will be carried on Camissa Travel with exception of trained guide dogs accompanying a visually impaired passenger.
Camissa Travel will not be obliged to carry any child under the age of 13 years unless that child is accompanied by a responsible adult.
GENERAL
The guide, in his/her sole discretion will determine travel routes. The client is welcome to suggest alternative routes, but should understand that the guide’s decision is final and no discussion to the contrary will be entered into.
A car seat is mandatory in transport children under the age of 3 years. Car seats are not provided and the client is therefore requested to provide same. / Car seats can be provided at a fee of R……... Please indicate whether this service is required when making your reservation.
