About the Host
I am Andile born in rural South Africa, but have lived in Johannesburg my whole life. Before I became a culture and wildlife guide, I was a mountain guide in the Drakensberg Mountain. I love my country and would like to show you around.
Day 1: Start of the hike
We depart from Johannesburg to the small town of Phuthaditjhaba. This morning we start our hike at the Sentinel Car Park, after a group photo we will begin with our hike. The trail will take us through the famous zigzags trail until we reach the flat trail that will lead us to the famous chain ladders. At this point we will make use of the chain ladders to climb up the mountain to the summit. We are going to have our lunch at on top of the Tugela Falls. After a well deserved lunch we continue walking in the east direction to the Mnweni area. We may encounter Basotho shepherds with their livestock along the trail.
Day 2: Mweni
Another day in this undisturbed natural beauty. After breakfast we will leave our campsite and walk around the mountain for amazing photos. We will be carrying our lunch because we might return late. After catching the beautiful sunset it will be time to head back to the campsite for a good warm supper.
Day 3: Departure
It is an early start today, after a hot breakfast, we head back to sentinel car park. Today we have an option of using a different trail to get back to the car park for a more beautiful scenery. Once we reach the car park, we will hop into the vehicle and drive back to Johannesburg.
